The museum has a gorgeous Eclipse-style fully restored windmill with a wooden tub and water barrel. Rounding out the windmill exhibit, a wooden water drilling rig is also on exhibit—one of the only places that such a display can be viewed. A selection of tools that includes divining rods (or “waterwitches”) and other implements of the windmill trade are also on display. The grounds and main building of adjacent Wayland Baptist University are picturesque and make for a pleasant stroll.

The Hale County Courthouse is graced with a metal windmill atop an extraordinarily high tower; if you take Business I-27/TX 445 back out to the Interstate you'll also see a lovely, rugged Aermotor that provides a beautiful foreground against the big Texas sky. Plainview 's courthouse windmill is an excellent place to stop and stroll around a revitalized Main Street square. Replete with antique shops, places to eat, and a great small town atmosphere, you may find yourself wanting to stop and stay a while.
