In addition to a giant 14-foot windmill that was used to grind rather than pump water, the museum has eleven vintage windmills on the outdoor grounds as well as a 1917 6-foot Dempster open gear and an 8-foot Sampson open gear—both completely restored. The outdoor grounds are particularly photogenic against the backdrop of the huge red barn. Across the street you can also enjoy the National Route 66 Museum, where many of the icons from the heyday of the “Mother Road” have been recreated.
